UTERINE FIBROIDS

Uterine fibroids are the most common non-cancerous neoplasm affecting the female reproductive organs. They are mutations of the smooth muscle cells that line the uterus. They can grow both into the uterine cavity and/or outside of the uterus into the abdominal cavity. Uterine fibroids are benign tumors. In contrast to cancers, they grow as a solid mass of abnormal tissue and do not infiltrate the surrounding healthy tissues. They also do not metastasize to other parts of the body. Because of this, treatment of uterine fibroids is usually manageable.
